Self-Adjustable Flood Installation (SAFI)

Self-Adjustable Flood Installation (SAFI) is created from fabric, which is looped back and welded to itself. The fabric has a cavity and a perforated inside wall into which flood water flows. Inside the cavity is an air tube, which lifts the structure as the cavity fills, and thus the floodwall is self-regulating up to its design height. During the inflation phase it is necessary to anchor the inflatable structure to the ground using simple earth anchors, but when the cavity is full, the water exerts sufficient pressure to hold the structure steady. Typically, it can handle up to 3m of water.

Unlike other flood defence structures, SAFI is only a temporary structure, and when it is no longer required, it can be hosed off, rolled up and placed in storage until it is needed again. When required the system can be rolled out in hours (rather than days).

SAFI can be made in any colour, size or shape. It takes up very little storage space and requires very little maintenance beyond keeping it clean and free of water when in storage.
