It’s hard to miss the Lindstrand Aerostat in the upcoming film by Amazon, featuring Felicity Jones and Eddie Redmayne.

In 1862, daredevil balloon pilot Amelia Wren teams up with pioneering meteorologist James Glaisher to advance human knowledge of the weather.
While breaking records and advancing scientific discovery, their voyage to the very edge of existence helps the unlikely pair find their place in the world they have left far below them.

The movie is brought to life using a full scale Aerostat produced by Lindstrand Technologies, specially designed for the look of the 19th century.
You can catch the film on general release in theatres on December 6th, or on Amazon Prime Video on December 20th.

Lindstrand’s managing director, Per Lindstrand speaking at the FAVIA conference in the USA today.

Fantastic day at FAVIA celebrating the first manned balloon flight in the USA.

Our Managing Director, Mr Per Lindstrand will be speaking at this years FAVIA 225 event in the USA.

FAVIA 225 is thrilled to announce Per Lindstrand as a speaker at the convention! Per, with his years of adventure and innovation, is sure to be a can’t miss hour during the event!

Swedish-born, Per Lindstrand is a remarkable aeronautical engineer, pilot, and adventurer who has earned worldwide recognition for his achievements in breaking through the boundaries of lighter-than-air technology. He has held every absolute world record for hot air balloon flights in terms of distance, duration, and altitude; and is particularly known for his series of record-breaking trans-oceanic hot air balloon flights and attempts to be the first to fly a Rozière balloon around the Earth with Sir Richard Branson and Steve Fossett.

Per has received numerous awards for his achievement and outstanding contribution to the aeronautical industry including the Royal Aeronautical Club’s Gold Medal presented by Prince Andrew in both 1989 and 1991. In 1988, Per received the Royal Aeronautical Club’s Britannica Trophy presented by Lord Brabazon, as well as America’s most prestigious flying award, the Harmon Trophy, presented at the White House by Vice-President Quayle. Per has also been recognized in the Guinness Hall of Fame. Per not only flies balloons, but all other aircraft as well. He holds an airline transport pilot license for airplanes and helicopters and a commercial license for auto-gyros, airships, and gliders.

Founder of Lindstrand Technologies Ltd, Per’s numerous world record attempts have been crucial to the continuous innovation of his company. He holds a PhD in Aeronautical Engineering from Wolverhampton, UK and a MSc in Aeronautical Engineering from Gothenburg, Sweden. Since 1990, he has designed and built: a 2,600,600 ft³ hot air balloon which successfully crossed the pacific; a 1,100,00 ft³ Roziere balloon for the Virgin Global Challenger attempt to circumnavigate the World; and a 200,000 ft³ helium 30 passenger tethered aerostat.

If you’re heading to the Icicle this weekend come and say hello at the Lindstrand stand. Per will be there on Saturday at 1400 to make an exciting new announcement.

Throw Back Thursday! An amazing image from the Richard and Per’s adventure archives! Image of the team from the Virgin Pacific Flyer. 1991

Throw back Thursday, this time last week was the Longleat SkySafari with 18 Lindstrand Technologies balloons flying, we think this is the most to get together in the UK.

Congratulations to Bill Baker who won the Sky Safari in a LTL Series 1 – 105 and to Robin Waite in his Series 2 – 80 who won the draw for the car, the Datum Pro Trophy was also won by another pilot flying a LTL Series 1 -70 Congratulations Chase Donner.

Who would have thought flying a Lindstrand envelope could be so lucky…. we suggest you all go out and buy lottery tickets!!

Thanks to Exclusive Ballooning for a fantastic weekend.

On the 3rd July 1987 Per Lindstrand and Richard Brandson set off on their record breaking adventure – The First Atlantic Hot Air Balloon Crossing. This remarkable voyage took place 30 years ago. You can now still re-live the epic adventure by watching the film Don’t Look Down.

We are committed to advancing lighter than air technology into the 21st Century, which is why we have invested in a state-of-the-art, four-axis lathe and milling machine by HAAS.

26 years ago today 15th January, Per Lindstrand and Richard Branson, began their Pacific crossing by hot air balloon. Two days later they landed in Yellowknife, Canada on 17th January 1991. They had achieved the first Pacific crossing by hot air balloon.

The Pacific Crossing records included:

• —the first hot air balloon across the Pacific
• —the fastest manned balloon flight
• —the longest manned balloon flight

Peak speed — 239.62 mph (208 knots, 385.4 Km/hr)

Mean Cruise Altitude — 27,000 feet (8.23 Km)

Max. Altitude — 36,000 feet (10.97 Km)

Santa Clause has been to Lindstrand early this year, and has brought us a new CNC Miller and CNC Lathe by Haas. These are very exciting pieces of equipment and a great addition to our engineering department. It will allow for a whole host of items to be machined in house, and great for prototyping.

We think these machines are going to be kept very busy!
