Through the University of Virginia’s Darden School of Business, the Resilience Awards competition recognises businesses which have overcome recession and depressed local economies to create badly needed jobs in their communities.
Not only do the Awards provide a source of pride within the winning businesses and their respective communities, they provide businesses with the support and resources to sustainably grow even more successful through publicity, networking and Darden Executive Education programme.
Lindstrand USA was chosen as the winning business in the category of Manufacturing/ Wholesale Sector. Since it was established in 2004, the company has been forced to diversify and navigate logistic and bureaucratic hurdles.
Today the company employs 31 full time workers locally, nearly 90% who were out of work for more than 2 years prior to being hired. In an area that has seen the decline of the tobacco, furniture and textiles industries, Lindstrand USA is a strong contributor to the economic base of South Boston, Virginia.
